Innocence and other Poetry

Innocence
For my younger self

When I was young reality was just a far off dream
Something no one cared about
Something unforeseen

Ignorance was truly bliss
All I saw was all I knew
Knowledge was something useless
Fantasy was true

I had my own world
Something fine
I never told
For it was mine

I never knew of hunger
I never knew of pain
All I had was blissful wonder
Nothing to lose or gain

My childhood is past
Things have changed since then
So short did it last
Nothing will be the same again

Elements

I can bring down mountains
I wear away stone
I can be invisible
Or hard as a bone

I can bring life
Or be colder than death
On icy days
I am seen in your breath

I am water

I can be a storm
Or gentle and fair
But though you can’t see me
I am always there

I bring you peace
With my soothing sound
But learn to fear me
I bring cities down

I am wind

I am beautiful and deadly
Practical yet poet’s friend
I am wild and must be tamed
With my heat a warning I send

I bring warmth and protection
I am a light in the dark
But I am dangerous like my brothers
Beware of my spark

I am fire

I am your mother
I nurtured you all
But when I quake
Whole kingdoms fall

Life comes from me
I can destroy what I have made
For when the end is near
Not a man will be saved

I am earth

Rain
For my sister

Drip drip drip
Splish splash slip

Fall on my face
Wet my hair
Make me shiver
Soaked everywhere

    • Thank you! There was a rain storm that really inspired me with the power and beauty of the elements. The power went out and I just sat down and wrote out a poem. I spent about half an hour on it.

  1. These are very good. I especially loved the poem with… the words that meant wonderful things. They were all so good I don’t know what to praise.
