The Ballad of the Chocolate-Chip Cookie

High in a fortress
Rather crumbled and old,
There lived a fair maiden
With more beauty than gold.

She, a chocolate-chip cookie
With a near perfect form,
Was guarded by giants,
So would she not mourn?

Oh who could save her,
That damsel most fair,
For her giant assailants
Would kill all who’d dare.

The cookie she waited
As each long day passed,
For her true knight to come
And save her at last.

Of the chocolate-chip cookie,
One knight soon heard,
And bravely sought onward
Without uttering a word.

Prince Leo of the Southern Isles
Was told to be his name,
And through all the lands
The Prince rose in fame.

When he came to the tower,
He saw giants in wait,
And POW!! through the air
He was back at his gate.

The cookie she waited
As each long day passed,
For her true knight to come
And save her at last.

But then there arose
A knight learned in books
Who was known through the world
As one with good looks.

When he would ride by,
On a most noble steed,
People would cry in awe,
“Sir Napoleon of Deed!”

He galloped toward the tower,
Yet when the giant did appear,
He let out a great gasp
And fled shaking with fear.

The cookie she waited
As each long day passed,
For her true knight to come
And save her at last.

Then a king from far-off
Having talent quite rare,
Was told of the cookie
With chocolate-chips fair.

Then the King Kurt of Ablon
Raised up his banner,
And set off on this quest
With all regal manner.

The giants he fought
Through night and through day,
When his strength was exhausted,
He cried, “I’ll leave if I may!”

The cookie she waited
As each long day passed,
For her true knight to come
And save her at last.

One day a knight,
With spirit most defiant,
Heard of that cookie
Which was guarded by giants.

He leapt into his saddle,
Did Sir Zachery of Delain,
And rode off into the night
To cause those giants great pain.

He charged up the hill,
When all of a sudden,
He found himself lying
On the floor of their dungeon.

The cookie she waited
As each long day passed,
For her true knight to come
And save her at last.

Many months departed,
And a creature of the sty,
With a wart on his nose
And a gleam in his eye,

Heard of the maiden,
As sweet as a bud,
And set off to save her
Did Sir Pig of Mud.

He journeyed near and far,
To find the cookie fair,
He roamed north and south,
But she was not anywhere.

The cookie she waited
As each long day passed,
For her true knight to come
And save her at last.

He rode to a village,
In which lived popcorn,
And saw a lovely girl
Atop a large acorn.

She was pure white and fluffy,
Glittering with salt.
So there in that village,
Our hero did halt.

It was love at first sight,
For her radiance was vast,
He stayed with her forever,
‘Till he breathed his last.

The cookie she waited
As each long day passed,
For her true knight to come
And save her at last.

The years dragged on,
And the cookie was forgotten,
While high in the tower
She began to turn rotten.

Her chocolate chips melted,
Because of the heat.
And her glorious beauty,
Began to deplete.

Her golden brown color
Was covered with dust,
The giants rejected her,
Withdrawing in disgust.

The cookie was crumbling,
For all those knights failed,
So at last the dear cookie,
Became only a tale.

This was written along with Vanessa Hashlocke.
