Yes, this is a poem about Election Day, but it’s also about 2020 in general. This is my opinion, and I know that y’all are good enough friends with me that we can share our opinions like rational human beings. Enjoy!
This is the day that we waited for.
This is the day that we reap what we sow,
This is the day that we know which king is the one we asked for.
These mortal men, both wayward in thought,
Neither of them what we need,
Why must we choose the lesser of two evils?
Lord, is this punishment for the sins of my land?
The many years of ignorance, the many moons of falsehood,
Was it all our fault?
Lord, false doctrine and false Children scatter this land like sand on the shore,
Was this year their reward?
Lord, who will it be?
I know such trivial things are a footnote in Your book, Lord,
But I don’t want the last third of my life to repeat.
Abba! Father! Why must the nation toss and turn like California waves?
Stumble like an injured calf?
When will this madness cease?
But you, oh Lord, are steadfast,
The one constant in this multiverse of variables,
The leaders of this earth are mites compared to you.
I am a citizen of a greater Kingdom,
A land with a King that never falters,
Never lies,
Never gaffes.
