From an Apartment Window
Far below cars rush past
Horns bleeping
Lights flashing
Wheels splash water
The world is blurred
Like a painting
As rain trickles
Down the window
Music begins playing
Jazz from the nightclub
Opera from the theatre
Weaving together
Those on the street
Like ants holding umbrellas
Race to taxis
Pulling coats close about them
Inside it is warm
My cat purrs
A steaming mug at hand
I am contented
