Evening

Sparks flash and flicker in the dark night;

Crackling popping coals glow in the silence.

Beams of light dart and dash, bouncing bright.

The warmth of the fire thrills my very core.

Smoky stillness grows deep in my lungs;

Dripping steak appeals to my helpless nostrils.

The sizzling of meat allures my tongue,

Though my eyes are locked in the flames.

A shower of sparks lights the sky,

Raining stars of fire as they blink and fade.

Though the specks fall and comply,

The flames disregard Night’s plea of inky shadow.
